Installing Plugins in Wordpress

June 29, 2008 by Andy

This video shows how to install a plugin into Wordpress. The plugin installed in this video is a Google XML Sitemap generator, but the principle for installing any plugin is the same, so follow along with this one, and you should be able to install any plugin you want.

    Hello Andy,
I’ve been studying your ezoblogs, just been to the Filezilla site and am stumped which one I’m supposed to download? Client or Server? As you guessed I am a newbie and am reading up on everything to do with Wordpress. The other thing is I started to watch the above video I found the sound a liitle low so I had difficulty hearing you. Now I am partially deaf so I don’t know how helpful these are going to be for me. I do have the LongTail Cash course (as recommeded by you) I can hear those (thank goodness), but will be following your email course etc with avid interest.
Many thanks for such wonderful quality content.

I’ll look at the audio on my next video. I did say in the newsletter (I think) that you want the Client version of Filezilla.

I don’t know if it’s just my computer or not but I can’t seem to view all the above videos. I have been able to view the first one on the Google Sitemap. I then scrolled thru the others and tried viewing but nothing comes up - just a blank screen. I’ve tried refreshing the page and starting over agan but each time is the same. I click on a video, it seems to load but when I hit the play button nothing comes up but a blank screen. Not sure if this is happening with all of them or not but the one I was trying to view was on the Adsense Deluxe - or a name similar to that.
    Any suggestions?

I dont have a video on Adsense deluxe.
I dont know why you would have problems with any of my videos, as they are all working (and are hosted at one of the best free video hosts).

I found your video on installing the Google Sitemap very good, but it did not explain what to do with it after activation. I am trying to put it on its own page on my site, but I don’t know how to get this to work. Help would be really appreciated.

I am creating a complete set of tutorials here on Wordpress, and a future one will show how to use each of the plugins in my top 10 list.

    Hi Andy ,

I am using WP to host my new blog at http://365daysoncafepress.wordpress.com .

I am lost at trying to install Google site map generator as I do not know what to put in for host etc for me to upload the files .

    THANKS !!!

    Hi Andy!

Thanks for the Sitemap tutorial. I followed your instructions to the ‘T’, however when I logged into my Wordpress account, Sitemap was nowhere to be seen under the Plug-ins category, even though Filezilla showed that the transfer was successful???

I chose to go with Wordpress.org NOT .com, …I installed Wordpress using Fantastico, I hope that this has nothing to do with WP.org, as opposed to WP.com?………….I wouldn’t think this has anything to do with .com and .org?

I noticed at the top left hand page of Filezilla, there’s a little space that says ‘host’. I noticed in your video that you left that blank and just filled out the pop-up window to fill out the host info, username, passwords, etc. When I wanted to transfer my data, Filezilla asked to me fill out that top left-hand corner space first, in order to allow me to continue?…hmm..strange

The usual reason for a plugin NOT showing up is that you have not uploaded the “folder” containing the plugin files. Often a plugin will require the entire folder and contents to be uploaded, not just the files in the folder.

Thanks Andy, for your quick response…..I did it again and it worked!

I think I was more excited about this working, than when I graduated college! I can’t for the life of me understand why it didn’t happen the first time, as I followed your video to the T’ and even replayed certain sections to make sure I got it right. Anyway, a huge thanks for relieving my stress for today - cheers Buddy!

    Best,
    Mark
