Is Wordpress the ideal site building tool?
January 18, 2009
There is a wide range of site building tools available, some free and some not. What all site builders have in common is that they have a learning curve. That is just the time and effort required to master the tool.
When I first started out in affiliate marketing, I used Site Build It! as my site building tool, and that product was the original inspiration behind my SEO Website Builder (designed for those who wanted to get started online but had zero HTML knowledge). When I left Site Built It! behind, I switched to Dreamweaver, which I still use today for some sites, and a lot of html, & php editing tasks. I have tried other tools like XSite Pro, but could never afford the time to learn how to use it, and the first version had a lot of things I just didn’t like). When XSite Pro v2 came out, I got that too, but it fell a long way short of my beloved Dreamweaver.
Despite selling my soul to Dreamweaver over the last 5 years, things have recently changed. Specifically, my tool of choice for building websites has changed. I now use Wordpress for nearly all new sites I build.
Wordpress does have a learning curve as well, and that is why many people will decide to stick with their current trusted editor (its the reason I resisted the switch for so long). However, there are a few reasons why I think Wordpress is the ideal site building tool. Perhaps the most important in reason is that once Wordpress has been setup, you can concentrate on the content and forget about all of the things that need to be done when a page is added to the site. Wordpress takes care of all of these.
When you use Wordpress, you can forget about creating a new page from your template to add the new article to, adding the new page to a “category” or “silo” on your site, uploading the new page, adding links from other pages on your site to point to the new one, adding a link to the new page on the sitemap, and so on…. Wordpress takes care of these and so much more.
.
I have created a video that shows some of the reasons I love working with Wordpress. I’ll show you how quickly my content gets indexed, and even some of the recent affiliate commissions that my “showcase” Wordpress site makes.
For those interested in learning how to use Wordpress to create “long-term” affiliate sites, you can read more about my personal mentoring program – Wordpress for Affiliate Sites. You can also have a look at some of websites built by Students on the course on the Member’s Showcase (many of the students had not used Wordpress to build an affiliate site before).
